It’s easy to talk about investing. Just count the number of self-proclaimed experts dishing out “advice” on blogs, podcasts and social media. Talk, it turns out, really is cheap.

The problem? The talk changes with the tape. One month you’re told to pile into the Magnificent Seven. The next month you’re urged to dump them and chase private credit, gold or whatever the new hot trade happens to be. That’s not investing. That’s trading.

What’s much, much harder (but ultimately more profitable) is building a thoughtful, long-term strategy—and sticking with it when markets wobble, headlines scream and your own money is on the line. But that’s where the real money is made.

That’s why once a year, I pull back the curtain and show you exactly how I invest my personal long-term portfolio. This isn’t a model. It isn’t a backtest. This is the real thing—my actual retirement dollars at work.

If I’m going to recommend funds, critique managers and question Vanguard’s decisions, then I owe you something in return: Proof that I’m investing right alongside you.

If I’m asking you to stay disciplined, diversified and patient, then I’d better be doing the same.

Consider this my annual check-in—a transparent look at how I’m positioned for the long haul and confirmation that I’m still eating my own cooking.

Invested Alongside You

So, what does eating my own cooking look like in practice?
