Where there once was a backdoor into bitcoin through Vanguard Brokerage, it is now shuttered.
Around the hoopla of the introduction of almost a dozen “spot” bitcoin ETFs last week, I told you that while Vanguard was blocking purchases of these new ETFs, you could still buy futures-based bitcoin ETFs in your Vanguard account.
I guess someone at Vanguard was listening. On Friday evening, I received an email notifying me that Vanguard was closing the door on bitcoin completely. I’ve attached the email I received, but here’s the key quote.
Effective immediately, Vanguard will no longer accept the purchase of crypto-related investment products, including those that may have previously been available for purchase on our platform.
